Tuesday’s draft · In review
The big story

The best picks were already on the roster.

Twenty-two keeper selections changed the economics of this draft. A Round 6 Chase Brown, a Round 8 Rashee Rice and a Round 11 Bucky Irving let their managers buy stars elsewhere. A draft grade that ignores those head starts misses the point.

The 14-round snake draft finished September 8. With no completed fantasy week to recap yet, this first issue reviews the draft and looks ahead to the entire season.

Best keeper bargain

Brown at seventy. Yes, seventy.

Crashee Rice kept Chase Brown at No. 70. The external draft consensus puts him 12th overall. That is the foundation behind three receivers in the first three rounds.

Loveland and Irving give My name is Henry a similar structural advantage. Their keeper prices help explain our top two teams.

Reference: FantasyPros half-PPR draft board.

The pick under the microscope

Price carries a premium.

Mitch Slap used No. 28 on Jadarian Price, versus external rank 59. Seattle expects Price and George Holani to share early work, with Charbonnet returning later.

Our take: the upside is real, but that draft price asks a rookie to earn a substantial role quickly.

jacobaird · Draft slot 3

The receivers have taken over. Ja’Marr Chase, Drake London and Malik Nabers form our strongest receiving trio. Chase Brown and Drake Maye keep the rest of the lineup from feeling like an afterthought. The caveat is RB2: Henderson is out for the opener, leaving MarShawn Lloyd to bridge the gap.

The call: Wins the regular-season race and the championship. That is the desk’s call; a roughly one-in-five modeled title chance still leaves plenty of room to be wrong.

Draft review & all 14 picks

Brown at No. 70 as a keeper against external rank 12 is the issue’s best keeper bargain. Maye in Round 9 helped fund three straight receivers. Lloyd at No. 51 was expensive against external rank 93, but Green Bay’s expected workload gives that gamble a current football rationale.

brillbobaggins · Draft slot 10

A ground game with air support. Saquon Barkley, De’Von Achane and Bucky Irving can occupy both RB slots and the flex. Add Lamar Jackson and Colston Loveland, and the positional advantage is obvious. The receivers are the swing factor: Egbuka, Metcalf and Tate need to supply enough around that engine.

The call: Finishes near the top of the power rankings and wins a playoff game. One receiver breaking out would make this the championship pick.

Draft review & all 14 picks

Barkley, Achane and Jackson in the first three rounds built a clear identity. Loveland in Round 8 and Irving in Round 11 made it affordable. Josh Jacobs at No. 111 is a speculative stash with an uncertain return, so this grade rests on the healthy core rather than a presumed comeback.

Young legs. Serious upside. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Brock Bowers provide major advantages at WR and TE. Ashton Jeanty, Jeremiyah Love and Cam Skattebo fill out a young rushing core, with Jayden Daniels adding his own ground production. The starting group is stronger than the bench behind it.

The call: Grabs the final playoff seed, then reaches the championship game. A strong starting seven can be more dangerous in December than a prettier record.

Smith-Njigba at No. 9 was attractive against external rank 5. Bowers in Round 4 and Skattebo in Round 8 are the keeper foundation. Mike Washington at No. 81 was aggressive against rank 139; a later Matthew Stafford pick was cheaper insurance behind Daniels.

Quietly built to be annoying. Amon-Ra St. Brown and DeVonta Smith supply a strong receiving base, while Kenneth Walker and D’Andre Swift keep the backfield competitive. The call: Makes the playoffs without ever becoming the group chat’s favorite team. Kraft is the difference between a good roster and a difficult out.

St. Brown at No. 7 and Walker at No. 18 were sensible foundations. Swift at No. 31 cost more than his external consensus rank of 45, but keeping Smith in Round 4 and Tucker Kraft in Round 8 softened the bill. Pollard provides a useful alternative when the flex matchup turns ugly.

Shake N Bake

martizsm3 · Draft slot 5

Ready before the oven is warm. Christian McCaffrey, Nico Collins and Joe Burrow give this team real top-end production. Zay Flowers and a useful bench help it absorb weaker matchups. Stevenson’s opening-week opportunity lifts the immediate outlook; that temporary workload boost is not carried through the entire season.

The call: Starts fast, earns a top-two seed in our forecast, and makes everyone nervous about facing McCaffrey in a knockout game.

Draft review & all 14 picks

McCaffrey and Collins established the ceiling. Flowers at No. 29 matched the external draft rank, while Stevenson at No. 44 was a more expensive bet. Christian Watson as a Round 9 keeper is the quiet win: the external board ranks him 57th, and he is our preferred long-term flex option.

Dallas carries the spellbook. CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott and Javonte Williams create a substantial Dallas concentration. Our schedule forecast likes this team more than its raw power rank does.

The call: Takes a playoff place and delivers at least one absurd Dallas-powered win. The same concentration makes the floor uncomfortable when that offense stalls.

Lamb and Hampton at the 12/13 turn made a balanced opening. Javonte in Round 7 and Dak in Round 9 are the real advantages. Tyler Warren at No. 37 was a premium over external rank 54, but late Dallas Goedert insurance gives the tight-end slot a second path to production.

Bijan is driving. Who’s navigating? Bijan Robinson and Jalen Hurts keep the weekly ceiling high. Travis Etienne, Ladd McConkey and Tetairoa McMillan make this a credible playoff contender. Three stars. A thin safety net. Jahmyr Gibbs, Josh Allen and Trey McBride are an excellent answer to almost any fantasy problem. The rookie has a lot riding on him. Jonathan Taylor, George Pickens and Chris Olave can carry a week. Our season lineup slightly prefers Tuten; Price is in the submitted Week 1 lineup.

Week 1 · Matchup 5

One play could write the headline.

Our point estimates · Submitted lineups · Not live scores

The point estimates are essentially level. The Real Dead Mau Five gets the smallest of leans through its quarterback and receiving combination. Chicago Beers can erase that with a Henry touchdown or a Jefferson splash play. This is a coin flip wearing a decimal point.

Watch: The flex decision. Dowdle brings a rushing path for the Beers; Michael Wilson supplies the receiving path for Mau Five.

Week 1 · Matchup 6

Two darts. Almost no daylight.

Our point estimates · Submitted lineups · Not live scores

Throwing Darts gets a hairline edge, not a confident call. Puka and the Rams provide an early Thursday test, while Mitch Slap can answer with Taylor, Pickens and Olave. Price’s opening-night role matters: Seattle expects him to share work with George Holani.

Watch: Price’s touches versus the Rams’ scoring distribution. Either can make a one-point estimate irrelevant.

Behind the byline: sources, scoring & how we made the calls

League facts. Sleeper supplies team names, ownership, rostered players, submitted starters, draft ownership, keeper flags, league settings and matchups. The player directory supplies identification and injury labels only. All 168 picks are assigned using their receiving roster IDs, including traded selections. The current roster can differ from the draft. League snapshot: Sep 9, 2026 · 9:29 AM PT. Independent rankings were retrieved September 9; PFM’s board is dated September 8.

Our estimates. For each player, we blend the positional rank from FantasyPros (60%) and Pro Football Mania (40%), separately for the season and Week 1. If only one source lists a player, it supplies the rank. We convert rank to points using our own piecewise linear curves: for example RB1 = 21.5, RB12 = 14.8, RB24 = 11.0; WR1 = 19.8, WR12 = 14.2; QB1 = 23.5, QB12 = 18.5; TE1 = 14.8 and TE12 = 8.0. These are judgment-based expected points for an active game in half-PPR with four-point passing touchdowns. They are not another service’s point predictions, and no Sleeper projection data enters the calculation.

News and matchups. Week 1 rank differences incorporate the independent analysts’ opponent assessments. We add a modest 1.8 points to Stevenson’s weekly baseline after Henderson was ruled out, and 0.8 to Lloyd for his expected Green Bay opportunity. Those are incremental desk judgments, not measured effects. Henderson and Jacobs receive zero Week 1 points based on team reporting. Henderson’s season baseline assumes one missed game; Jacobs receives a conservative 35% availability factor, with no claim about a return date. Other questionable starters are estimated as playing. Unranked weekly players retain a missing estimate unless independent reporting confirms they are unavailable; none occupies a submitted starting slot.

Scoring limits. The league starts QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, FLEX, K and DEF. Our point curves target its half-PPR/four-point-pass-TD format. Kickers and defenses have separate rank-to-point curves; these approximate the league’s custom field-goal-distance and defensive-yardage scoring. We have not built a full event-level model of every custom scoring category. The decimal is useful for summing a lineup, not evidence of that level of predictive accuracy.

Power rankings. We maximize the seven offensive starting slots using season estimates and add 20% of the combined value of the best three remaining RB/WR/TE options. The leader is scaled to 100. Kickers and defenses do not decide season power ranks. Draft grades consider keeper cost, outside draft ranks, positional balance and depth; ECR comparisons are context rather than keeper-adjusted market prices.

Season forecast. We run 10,000 simulations with the real 14-week league schedule and NFL byes. Week 1 uses the submitted offensive starters and our weekly estimates; later weeks use each roster’s best available skill-player lineup. Each team gets neutral 7-point kicker and 6-point defense assumptions to represent streaming. A season-long team-strength error of six points and independent weekly scoring error of 18 points create uncertainty. We seed the top six by wins, then points, and use the standard fixed bracket with two byes for Weeks 15–17. Simulations omit future trades, detailed injury paths, opponent changes after Week 1 and explicit within-game player correlations. The printed records are balanced rounded expected wins. The separate bracket and bold predictions are the desk’s editorial selections.

Weekly matchup chances. We sum our estimates for the submitted starters and use an 18-point standard deviation per team to translate the difference into a win chance. This intentionally leaves close games near 50%. No results have been invented: every team was 0–0 and every Week 1 score was zero in this snapshot.
